No. 2 Men’s Golf Stays Afloat, 13th After Rain-Soaked Second Round at NCAA Championship

5/21/2025 6:24:00 PM

PENFIELD, N.Y. – Battling through worsening weather conditions, the No. 2-ranked Washington and Lee University men's golf team fell five spots to a tie for 13th place after the second round of the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship on Wednesday.

The Generals opened the day at Cobblestone Creek Country Club, climbing as high as second on the live leaderboard early in the round. But as heavy rain set in around 10 a.m., W&L struggled through the final nine holes, ultimately posting a 309 (+21) for the day. The team now sits at 607 (+31) overall following Tuesday's opening-round 298 at Midvale Country Club.

Sophomore Jonathan McEwen provided a bright spot for the Generals, climbing from a tie for 31st into 12th place individually at +3, highlighted by four birdies in a seven-hole stretch after a shaky start.

First-year Timothy Kaufman is currently tied for 56th at +8, followed by senior Will Braxton in 97th at +11. Senior Elias Malakoff is tied for 124th at +13, and first-year Charlie Krasnewich sits in 137th at +14.

The Generals return to Midvale Country Club for the third and fourth rounds. Krasnewich will open play at 9:45 a.m. on the 10th hole for the Generals.
