Women's Lacrosse Postseason Run Ends in Round of 16

LANCASTER, Pa. – Ninth-ranked Washington and Lee University saw its postseason run come to a close Saturday afternoon in the NCAA Division III Round of 16, falling 18-10 to sixth-ranked Gettysburg College in the regional semifinal hosted at Shadek Stadium on the campus of Franklin & Marshall.

The Generals concluded the 2025 season with an 18-5 overall record, capturing their 25th Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) title and marking their sixth consecutive appearance in the national round of 16.

Game Summary

W&L started strong, as Lara Baki netted the opening goal just 25 seconds into the contest. The Generals traded punches with the Bullets early, tying the game at 2-2 midway through the first quarter on a woman-up goal by Betty Boatwright, but Gettysburg closed the period with a three-goal run to lead 4-2 after one.

The second quarter featured an offensive surge from both sides. W&L trimmed the deficit to 7-5 on goals by Emma Marsh, Katie Reed, and Caroline Foster, but Gettysburg answered with a pair of scores in the final two minutes to carry a 10-6 advantage into halftime. The Bullets extended their lead with a 4-1 burst to open the third, effectively putting the game out of reach despite late efforts by Boatwright, Cat Caples, and Baki, who cut the margin to 15-10 with three minutes to play. Gettysburg closed with three unanswered goals.

Individual Performances

W&L had six different goal scorers, led by Katie Reed and Betty Boatwright, who each tallied two goals and one assist. Lara Baki also scored twice, while Emma Marsh, Hannah Van Son, Caroline Foster, and Caples each added one goal. Claire Horner distributed two assists.

Caples led the Generals with six draw controls, while Emma Marsh added four. Libby Ford picked up a team-best four ground balls and caused two turnovers. In goal, Iman Haddad recorded 10 saves.

For the Bullets, Julia Daly led all players with four goals and three assists, while Michaela Kelly totaled three goals and three assists. Sophie Smith and Emily Crane each had three goals, and Grace Battle controlled a game-high seven draws. Goalie Juliette Devarenne matched Haddad with 10 saves.
