HARRISONBURG ,Va. - The Washington and Lee University women's track and field team turned in a historic two-day performance, claiming the program's first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) outdoor title since 1995 to complete the triple crown for the first time in program history.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
- The Generals scored 206 team points across the two-day meet to secure their second outdoor title in program history, and their first since 1995, on Saturday. The Blue and White also completed the first triple crown in program history, claiming the Cross Country, Indoor Track & Field, and Outdoor Track & Field conference championships in the same season.
- Ashley D'Ambrosia kicked off the meet in the pole vault with a first-place finish after soaring over a height of 3.62m (11'-10.50") to win her second-straight outdoor conference title. Layla Keadle finished right behind her in second place after posting the third-best mark in program history, clearing a personal-best height of 3.52m (11'-06.50"). Abby Cholewa and Gabby Pullen finished back-to-back in sixth and seventh place to round out the vaulters. Cholewa cleared a height of 3.07m (10'-00.75"), while Pullen posted a mark of 2.92m (9'-07.00").
- Olivia Warr had a pair of championship finishes on Saturday, claiming titles in the 1,500m and 5,000m. Warr clocked a time of 4:49.51 to become the fifth runner in program history to win the 1,500m and became the sixth student-athlete to win the 5,000m after posting a time of 17:34.72.
- Sophia Breschi turned in a fourth-place finish in the 1,500m, crossing the finish line in 4:52.49, while Mimi Kemp, Emma Mitchell, and Julie Anne Bush finished sixth, seventh, and eighth to round out the scorers. Kemp posted a time of 4:54.16, Mitchell crossed the finish line in 4:57.17, and Bush clocked in at 5:00.46.
- Bailey Hedgemon and Emily Jackson both turned in top-eight finishes in the discus. Hedgemon recorded a fifth-place finish after posting a personal-best mark of 37.24m (122'-02.00"), which ranks fourth in program history. Jackson recorded the fifth-best mark in program history with a personal-best toss of 36.23m (118'-10.00").
- Ashley D'Ambrosia, Lilly Versen, Olivia D'Ambrosia, and Ana Hodneland teamed up in the 4x100m relay. The squad set a new program record, crossing the finish line in 48.40s to finish fifth.
- After qualifying for the finals in Friday's prelims with a time of 14.91s, Amanda Romano turned in a second-place finish in the 100m hurdles, crossing the finish line in a personal-best time of 14.82s. Her finals time tied Stacy Doornbos' program record, which was set in 2009.
- Annabelle Sutliff was the lone General competing in the 400m finals after clocking a qualifying time of 59.70s in Friday's prelims. Sutliff finished in seventh place after crossing the finish line in 1:01.70.
- Lilly Versen and Ashley D'Ambrosia both qualified for the 100m dash finals. Versen turned in a second-place finish after clocking a time of 12.28s, while D'Ambrosia finished sixth with a new personal-best time of 12.48s, which also ranks fourth in program history.
- The Blue and White had four student-athletes score in the 800m, with Mimi Kemp and Brenna Luczak leading the way with second- and third-place finishes, respectively. Kemp posted a time of 2:20.86 to finish as the runner-up, while Luczak earned bronze after crossing the finish line in a personal-best time of 2:21.34. Sofia Petrucelli finished seventh with a time of 2:23.07, and Lucie Graziano finished right behind her in eighth with a time of 2:23.18.
- After rain postponed their event last night, Amanda Romano and Joanne Lee both turned in top-eight finishes in the 400m hurdles. Romano finished second, crossing the line in 1:02.96, while Lee clocked in at 1:11.63 to finish eighth.
- Sophia Breschi earned another top finish in the 5,000m on Saturday evening, clocking in at 17:41.24 to finish third. Lydia Harvey finished right behind Breschi in fourth place after clocking a personal-best time of 17:45.27. Claire Hamlet rounded out the scorers with an eighth-place finish, posting a time of 18:40.92.
- Annabelle Sutliff, Lucie Graziano, Amanda Romano, and Ana Hodneland closed out the meet for the Generals in the 4x400m relay. The squad clocked the ninth-fastest time in program history, crossing the finish line in 4:03.00 to place third.
TOP TEN UPDATES
- Ashley D'Ambrosia, Lilly Versen, Olivia D'Ambrosia and Ana Hodneland  broke the 4x100m relay program record on Saturday, clocking in a time of 48.40s. Their time surpassed the 2024 squad's time of 48.51s.
- Amanda Romano tied the program's 100m hurdles record in the finals heat this afternoon. Romano clocked in a personal best time of 14.82s to tie Stacy Doornbos' time which was set in 2009.
- Lilly Versen moved to No. 5 all-time in program's 200m record books after finishing in second place with a personal best time of 25.83s. Her time surpassed Ashley D'Ambrosia's time of 25.84s which was set this season.
- Ashley D'Ambrosia improved her No. 4 all-time mark in the 100m dash program record books, clocking in a time of 12.48s to finish in 6th place.
- Lydia Harvey moved to No. 8Â all-time in the 5,000m top ten list after crossing the finish line in 17:45.27 to finish in fourth place. Her time surpassed Josephine Schaffer's time of 17:46.04 which was set in 1996.
- Bailey Hedgemon moved up one spot to No. 4 all-time in the discus record books after recording a personal best mark of 37.24m (122'-02.00"). Emily Jackson posted the fifth-best mark in program history, recorded a toss of 36.23m (118'-10.00"). Both marks surpassed Sandra Holmes mark of 118'-05.00" which was set in 1994.
- Layla Keadle tied the third-best mark in program history in the pole vault, clearing a personal best height of 3.52m (11'-06.50") to finish in second place. Her mark tied Jillian Katterhagen's mark which was set in 2015.
- Annabelle Sutliff, Lucie Graziano, Amanda Romano and Ana Hodneland clocked in the ninth-fastest time in program history, crossing the finish line in 4:03.00 for a third place finish. Their time surpassed the 2015 squad's time of 4:03.36.
