LYNCHBURG, Va. – The No. 28 Washington and Lee women's tennis team extended its winning streak to four on Wednesday afternoon with a 7-0 sweep at Randolph.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Generals (9-4, 5-0 ODAC) took 2-of-3 doubles matches to open the day, as senior
Meagan Donovan and junior
Jordan Kach teamed up at No. 3 for a 6-0 win, with junior
Annie Jennings and first-year
Greer Webb topping Fleur Gaalman and Emma Bauer at No. 2. Randolph's (7-4, 4-1 ODAC) No. 1 team of Lena Kersten and Liza Van Veen pulled out a 6-4 win over junior
Grace Lorenz and first-year
Allie Murrell.
W&L raced away with the clinching points in singles, getting four within 50 minutes. Those four winners included Lorenz at No. 2 (6-1, 6-0), Webb at No. 4 (6-1, 6-0), Kach at No. 5 (6-1, 6-1) and Donovan at No. 6 (6-1, 6-0). Jennings closed out a straight-set win over Van Veen at No. 3 by a 6-1, 6-1 score, while Murrell outlasted Kersten at No. 1 in three sets. Murrell took the first set, 7-5, before Kersten countered with a 6-2 win in the second. The two-then played a 10-point tiebreaker to 28 points, with Murrell pulling out the victory.
