Men’s Track and Field Competes at EMU Heritage Invitational

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Washington and Lee University men's track and field team turned in 28 top eight finishes at the Eastern Mennonite University Heritage T&F Invitational on Friday.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • Jonathan Farbman, Ethan De Fonseka, Mark Freeman and Duncan Meldrum teamed up in the 4x100m relay, clocking in a time of 43.47s to finish in second place.
  • Teddy Meredith turned in a sixth place finish in the 1,500m, crossing the finish line in 4:25.12. Will Vaughn was the lone General in the 110m hurdles this afternoon, crossing the finish line in 19.08s for a third place finish.
  • Patrick France and Javan Hirwa both competed in the 100m dash this afternoon, both finishing within the top eight. France finished in fifth place, clocking in a personal best time of 11.21s while Hirwa crossed the finish line in a personal best time of 11.65s to finish in eighth place. 
  • W&L had three student-athletes finish within the top eight in the 400m on Friday. Duncan Meldrum paced the trip with a fourth place finish after crossing the finish line in 52.26s. Schulyer Clark and Mark Freeman finished back-to-back in seventh and eighth place, clocking in times of 52.61s and 53.16s, respectively.
  • In the 400m hurdles, Ryan McKenna and Danny Jakubowski-Lewis turned in top three finishes. McKenna led the duo with a first place finish after posting a time of 55.81s while Jakubowski-Lewis clocked in a time of 58.87s to finish in third place.
  • Ethan De Fonseka turned in a second place finish in the 200m dash, clocking in a personal best time of 22.21s while Javan Hirwa posted a personal best time of 23.51s to finish in sixth place.
  •  Thomas Kallen paced the 3,000m steeplechase duo this evening, clocking in a time of 10:09.44 to finish in second place. Raja Mehendale made his debut in the event, finishing right behind Kallen in third with a time of 10:17.26.
  • Stevan Bajski turned in a first place finish in the shot put, recording a mark of 13.28m (43'-06.75"). Will Knight and O'Keefe McKinney finished in fourth and seventh place, respectively to round out the event. Knight recorded a toss of 12.21m (40'-00.50") while McKinney posted a mark of 11.83m (38'-09.50").
  • Will Vaughn was the lone General in the long jump this afternoon, leaping 6.04m (19'-09.75") to finish in sixth place. Evan Novak posted a fourth place finish in the hammer throw, recording a mark of 46.31m (151'-11.00").
  • W&L had a trio of student-athletes in the pole vault with all three turning in top six finishes. Lukas Michael led the group with a third place finish, clearing a height of 3.60m (11'-09.50"). Troy Spillman and Will Vaughn finished back-to-back in fifth and sixth place. Spillman cleared a height of 3.45m (11'-03.75") while Vaughn soared over a height of 3.15m (10'-04.00").
  • The Generals finished second through fifth in the discus throw with Leo Avigliano leading the charge with a second place finish after recording a toss of 40.61m (133'-02.75"). O'Keefe McKinney finished in third place with a mark of 35.92m (117'-10.00") while Evan Novak finished in fourth with a mark of 35.86m (117'-07.75"). Will Knight rounded out the group with a fifth place finish, recording a mark of 35.15m (115'-03.75").
  • Brandon Makowski claimed the top spot in the javelin to cap off the meet, recording a toss of 46.62m (152'-11.25") while Stevan Bajski posted a new personal best mark of 40.23m (131'-11.75") to finish in second place.

  • Junior Keaton Rush will wrap up the weekend in Lewisburg, Pa. as he will compete at the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell University. Rush will compete in the 10,000m which is scheduled to start at 10:15 p.m.
