LEXINGTON, Va. – In a battle of nationally ranked teams, No. 8 Washington and Lee fell to No. 16 York (Pa.), 12-5, in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.
The Generals (5-3) held York to just one goal in the opening quarter, but the Spartans (3-1) gained control in the second half, outscoring W&L 8-2 over the final 30 minutes.

W&L got off to a strong start as
Emma Marsh put the Generals on the board first at 12:54 in the first quarter, assisted by
Caroline Foster. The Generals' defense held York scoreless for over nine minutes before the Spartans equalized at 3:10 on a goal from Krista Yarusso.
York took control in the second quarter with two quick goals at 14:13 and 11:40, but
Hannah Van Son cut the deficit to 3-2 at 8:15, finishing a feed from
Lara Baki. The Spartans responded just before the break to take a 4-3 halftime lead.
The third quarter proved to be the turning point, as York went on a 4-1 run, including a free-position goal from Kate Feldman at 10:10 and a player-up goal from Gianna Huet at 4:53. Baki converted a free-position goal at 3:42 to stop the run, but York entered the final quarter with an 8-4 advantage.
Despite a quick goal from Baki at 12:05 in the fourth quarter to make it 8-5, York shut out W&L the rest of the way, finishing with a four-goal surge to seal the 12-5 victory.
