NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – For a second straight day at Christopher Newport University, the seventh-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team came up one point short, 4-3, against the host Captains on Sunday.

Sarah Donnelly picked up a quick advantage in doubles, downing their opposition, 6-1, at No. 3. At the top two spots, both matches went to tiebreaks to decide which team would claim the early lead. CNU's () Kylie Schaefer and Raine Weis topped W&L's (5-4) top tandem of juniors

Grace Lorenz, 7-4, in the breaker, before Kendal Chang and Samantha Robertson pulled out an 8-6 win in their tiebreak at No. 2.
The Generals' singles wins came from the Nos. 3, 4 and 6 positions, courtesy of Lorenz, Donnelly and junior
Annie Jennings, respectively. All three won in straight sets, with Donnelly and Jennings posting matching scores of 6-2, 6-1. At No. 5, sophomore
Haley Stoltz held a 6-3, 3-2 lead over Robertson, before she was forced to retire due to injury. The other two CNU wins came from Weis at No. 1 (7-6 (5), 7-5) and Schaefer at No. 2 (6-3, 4-6, 6-4).
