Rush Breaks Program Record, Three Generals Enter Record Books

LEXINGTON, Va. / WINSTON-SALEM, N.C - Junior Keaton Rush of the Washington and Lee University men's track and field team set a new program record on Saturday while two other student-athletes entered the program record books.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • Rush highlighted Saturday's action by setting a new program record in the 3,000m run, clocking a time of 8:28.36 to finish seventh at the Camel City Distance Classic. His mark surpasses Josh Fingerhut's previous record of 8:32.75, set in 2023.
  • Junior Evan Langhammer was the Generals' top finisher at the VMI Winter Classic, earning a second-place finish in the pole vault. He cleared a height of 4.45m (14'-07.25") in his first meet of the season.
  • Junior Will Knight secured a top-five finish in the shot put, recording a mark of 14.21m (46'-07.50") to place fifth. Sophomore Patrick Haynes posted the fifth-best mark in program history in the triple jump, leaping a personal-best 13.45m (44'-01.50") to finish fifth.
  • Sophomore Fidel Small also recorded a personal best in the triple jump, finishing seventh with a mark of 13.15m (43'-01.75"). Sophomore Leo Avigliano rounded out the top-10 finishers, placing tenth in the shot put with a mark of 13.10m (42'-11.75"). Sophomore Ethan De Fonseka clocked in the fourth-fastest time in program history in the 200m on Saturday, crossing the finish line in 22.61s to surpass Jonathan Farbman's time of 22.76s.
  • Additionally, Ryan McKenna, Schuyler Clark, Duncan Meldrum, and Robert Cooper all achieved personal bests in their respective events.

  • Robert Cooper improved his time in the program's 3,000m top five as he clocked in a time of 8:36.79 to finish within the top-20 at the Camel City Distance Classic.
  • Patrick Haynes etched his name into the triple jump record books after a personal best jump of 13.45m (44'-01.50') which ranks fifth all-time. Sophomore Ethan De Fonseka moved past Jonathan Farbman's time of 22.76s in the 200m as he clocked in a new personal best time of 22.61s to finish 17th in the event.
