Men's Basketball allows late run, falls at Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Washington and Lee men's basketball team dropped its third straight game on Saturday, 67-52, with a late Guilford run proving to be the difference.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Generals (6-15, 4-8 ODAC) led by three points through the game's first four minutes, when junior A.J. Thomas sank a three to push the team's lead to six points. After a Luke Proctor three for Guilford (17-5, 10-3 ODAC), first-year Connor Amorosi answered with a three of his own to get the lead back to six points.

Gabe Proctor followed with a triple to keep the Quakers going, and they went on to outscore W&L, 21-11, for the remaining 13 minutes of the first half. Guilford made 9-of-19 shots from the field in that time and held the Generals to 3-of-17 shooting.

Trailing by four points at the start of the second, the Generals remained in the game by making 7-of-11 shots from the field across the next 10 minutes of play. With the Quakers having extended their lead to 47-40 by the midway point of the half, W&L tied things up with a 7-0 run on two free throws from Thomas, a three from sophomore Conor Roberton and a jumper from Amorosi.

Luke Proctor then got a layup to fall with 7:44 left in the game, which began a game-ending 20-5 run for the home team. The Quakers, led by the Proctor brothers, made 5-of-8 shots to close out the win, while the Generals made just 2-of-13. Gabe and Luke Proctor combined for 18 of the team's final 20 points, including all 14 during a 14-0 run from the 7:44 mark until 3:49.

TOP PERFORMERS:
Amorosi scored a W&L-high 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting from the floor, and he added seven rebounds and three assists. Junior Colin Ryan followed with seven points, three boards and three assists.
