Jellig Leads Women's Swimming With 73 Points at D3 Shootout

CHICAGO — Members of the No. 25 Washington and Lee University women's swimming team finished ninth overall with 402 points at the 2025 D3 Shootout, hosted by the University of Chicago in a nationally ranked 10-team field. The Blue and White registered 16 season-best times of the 26 events over the two days. 

Maria Jellig led the Generals with a team-best 73 points, highlighted by a 2:04.66 in the 200 backstroke, 4:34.70 in the 400 individual medley, and 2:10.28 in the 200 IM. Peighton Kruzel added two top-four finishes, touching in 2:06.93 in the 200 butterfly and 57.45 in the 100 butterfly, contributing 64 points overall, both times are personal bests.

Marcy Mortimer posted strong mid-distance results, including 2:10.55 in the 200 IM, 5:13.46 in the 500 freestyle, and 4:40.76 in the 400 IM, while Celia Bredehoeft recorded 5:12.28 in the 500 freestyle and 1:59.88 in the 200 freestyle.

Gabby Clemens added 54.79 in the 100 freestyle and 2:00.70 in the 200 freestyle, and Frances Fenton turned in 25.21 in the 50 freestyle, 1:07.38 in the 100 breaststroke, and 2:27.13 in the 200 breaststroke. Amelia Maloof clocked 24.53 in the 50 freestyle, 1:10.17 in the 100 breaststroke, and 54.09 in the 100 freestyle, while Vivian Pickeral contributed 59.56 in the 100 backstroke and 2:08.60 in the 200 backstroke.

Up Next: The Generals return to action at the Randolph-Macon Invitational, hosted in Hampton, Va., from November 21–23. Preliminary sessions begin at 10 a.m., with finals scheduled for 6 p.m. each day.
