Series History:

Saturday marks the 21st match up in program history between the two institutions and the first since September 30, 1933. The Generals hold a 19-0-1 overall record in the series history with their first win coming in 1895 where they defeated Roanoke 6-4. The last meeting in 1933 was held in Lexington where the Blue and White kept their perfect streak alive with a 14-6 victory.

Scouting the Maroons:
The Maroons football program returned to the gridiron after an 83-year hiatus, playing in their first true season this year as a member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). First-year head coach Bryan Stinespring has led Roanoke to a 5-3 overall record and a 3-3 mark in conference play through nine weeks of the season. They kicked off the season with three-straight wins over Virginia University of Lynchburg (23-7), Greensboro (32-22), and Gallaudet (38-14). After falling to Randolph-Macon 35-17, they downed Bridgewater 24-14 on the road. Roanoke bounced back from a pair of losses to Shenandoah (33-20) and Hampden-Sydney (35-10) with a 21-20 nail-biting win over Guilford last Saturday.

Last week, the Maroons jumped out to a 21-7 lead late in the third quarter with a Linwood Johnson four-yard rushing touchdown. However, a 51-yard rushing touchdown from Guilford's Caleb Robles and a Jonathan Brown 85-yard pick-six put the Quakers within reach of knotting the game at 21, but a missed extra point kept it a one-point game. Both defenses held out, and Roanoke walked away with a 21-20 win. Roanoke generated 323 yards of offense on 80 plays while throwing for 202 yards and rushing for 121. Kam Hill was 17-for-37 (46%) for 166 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. He also led the team in rushing with nine carries for 62 yards. Ethan Graves caught five passes for a game-high 74 yards and a touchdown.

The Maroons' offense is averaging 23.1 points per game while generating 362.3 yards of total offense per game. They air it out for an average of 226.5 yards per game while rushing for 135.8 yards per game. Kam Hill is 116-for-218 (53%) through the air for 1,465 yards, eight touchdowns, and nine interceptions, averaging 183.1 yards per game. Tyson Miller leads the rushing attack with 348 yards on 109 carries and three touchdowns. Polo Hill is right on his tail with 328 yards on 72 carries with a pair of scores. Grey Deal is leading the receiving corps this season with 28 catches for 431 yards and four touchdowns.

Defensively, Roanoke is allowing 22.5 points per game while opposing teams are generating 327.5 yards per game — 208.5 through the air and 119.0 on the ground. The Maroons' defense has forced plenty of turnovers this season, picking off 11 passes while forcing 11 fumbles and recovering 10 of them. They also get home on the pass rush, sacking opposing quarterbacks 17 times. Charlie Davis leads the defensive unit and ranks third in the ODAC with 90 tackles this season, including 56 solo stops. He has also recorded 7.5 tackles for loss and a sack while forcing a pair of fumbles. Ethan Mapstone leads the Maroons with four sacks, while three other players have two or more sacks this season. Javier Waldron leads the team and conference with six interceptions this season, while Lane Shoemaker has picked off three.

Scouting the Generals:
The Blue and White are coming off a 61-21 win at Averett last Saturday, where they improved to 5-3 on the season and 5-1 in ODAC play. They are winners of their last four, which started with a 42-34 win over No. 21/24 Hampden-Sydney and was followed up with wins over Gallaudet (45-0) and Bridgewater (20-17, OT).

Last week, the Generals controlled the game at Averett as they scored double-digit points in each quarter while shutting out the Cougars in the second half. They posted the second-most yards in program history as they totaled 671 yards of offense on only 54 plays, while rushing for 589 yards — the second-most in both program and ODAC history. They threw one pass, which resulted in an 82-yard touchdown as Ian Gallimore connected with Joey Smargissi for the long score in the fourth quarter. Ryan Clemens and Dominic Hahn each rushed for over 150 yards with a combined five touchdowns. Clemens led all rushers with 164 yards on 15 carries and three scores to be named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week. Brennan Stout led the defensive unit with 11 total tackles, including four solo stops, while Randolph Smith and Israel Rivers each registered a sack.

Offensively this season, the Generals are averaging 31.4 points per game while totaling 424.3 yards per game, the second-most in the conference. The Blue and White are averaging a conference-best 312.9 yards per game on the ground, which also ranks fourth in Division III this season. Ty Collins is 58-for-101 (57%) in the pocket for 805 yards and seven touchdowns with five interceptions, averaging 100.63 yards per game. Ryan Clemens is leading the rushing unit after three-straight starts with 78 carries for 499 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 6.4 yards per rush. Teddy Sparrow continues to lead the receiving corps with 11 catches for 282 yards and three touchdowns.

On the other side of the ball, the Generals' defense is limiting opponents to an average of 21.1 points per game while holding opposing offenses to 305.4 yards per game — the second-lowest in the conference this season. The W&L run defense has been stout, only allowing 128.1 yards on the ground per game, while holding opposing rushing attacks under 100 yards in four contests this season. Brennan Stout leads the team with 82 tackles, including 16 solo stops and 2.5 tackles for loss. Will Knight leads the team with five tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. Will Mahmud leads the team with two interceptions, while Mac Palmer, Jack Johnson, Gabe Joyner, and Alan Haigler each have one this season.
