LEXINGTON, Va. - After a career performance on Saturday afternoon, Junior cornerback Marcus Canton was named to the first D3football.com Team of the Week of the 2026 season on Tuesday afternoon.

Canton earns the first national recognition of his career, becoming the 17th player in program history to represent the Blue and White on the weekly Division III honor roll.
This marks the fourth consecutive season a General has been named to the Team of the Week. Canton joins Ryan Clemens '29 (2025, Week 10), Jalen Todd '25 (2024, Week 7) and Hunter Hawk '24 (2023, Week 10) as W&L honorees over the past four seasons.

The Tarrytown, New York, native turned in a career performance in W&L's 13-7 overtime win over Wittenberg University on Saturday afternoon. Canton recorded a career-high 12 tackles, including five solo stops and one tackle for loss. He also forced a fumble inside the W&L red zone, ending a potential Wittenberg scoring drive in the first half. Canton helped anchor a Generals defense that forced three turnovers — two fumbles and one interception — and four punts while limiting the Tigers to seven points.

The Generals hit the road for the first time this season as they travel to Gettysburg College for a 6 p.m. match up with the Bullets at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.
