Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Thomas scores 22, W&L extends season-opening win streak to four at Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. – Senior A.J. Thomas scored a game-high 22 points and led the Washington and Lee men's basketball team in rebounding to propel the Generals to a 75-67 win at Dickinson on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • In an otherwise close and competitive first half, a 10-0 run from the Generals (4-0) across a four-minute span helped them gain a 10-point halftime lead (37-27). Thomas got that run going with a triple at the 14:39 mark, plus five points from sophomore Connor Amorosi.
  • For the first half, the Generals made 12-of-26 shots from the floor, with Amorosi pacing the offense with 12 points. Thomas and senior Colin Ryan both had 11, as well, by the break.
  • The Red Devils gradually clawed their way back to just three points down by the 10:54 mark of the second half behind 13 points combined from Isaiah Edmond and Juan Ruiz. Thomas responded for the Generals, however, with a jumper and a free throw, before Ryan sank a layup to get it back to an eight-point lead.
  • Both teams scored 20 points apiece over the final 9:43 of play, and did so without any sustained scoring runs. Dickinson came as close as five points down (57-52), but otherwise trailed by anywhere from six to 11 points the rest of the way.
TOP PERFORMERS:
  • Thomas's 22 points were a season-high for the senior guard, to go along with a career-high tying nine rebounds. He made 5-of-10 field goals, including 3-of-7 from outside, and was 9-for-10 at the free throw line.
  • Ryan followed with 21 points (8-14 FG), three rebounds and four assists, with another 16 points (3-6 FG, 9-9 FT) from Amorosi. Senior John Loughlin rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points.
  • Edmond scored a Dickinson-best 15 points, with Dane Moran at 12 points and Jacob Pichay at 11. Luis Ruiz led the Red Devils with 11 rebounds.
TEAM STATS:
  • The Generals made 43.8 percent (21-48) of their shot attempts in the game, including 36.8 percent (7-19) from outside. They also made 26 foul shots on the day, the most since hitting 29 on February 14, 2024, in a win at Lynchburg.
  • Dickinson was good on just 33.9 percent (19-56) of its shot attempts, including 21.7 percent (5-23) from three and 29.6 percent (8-27) total field goals in the first half. The Red Devils made 9-of-11 first-half free throws before going 15-of-25 in the second half.
  • The hosts held a final 46-31 rebounding advantage, but the Generals won the turnover battle, 14-10.
  • The Generals outscored Dickinson off turnovers (17-9) and in bench points (25-20), while the Red Devils held the positive margins in second-chance points (17-4) and points in the paint (28-26).
