GREENSBORO, N.C. – The No. 15 Washington and Lee women's soccer team continued its strong play on Saturday with a 4-0 win at Guilford for the team's fourth ODAC win of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Junior Amelia Manke netted the Generals' (8-2-1, 4-0-0 ODAC) first goal of the game in the 20th minute, following a Bryn Bissinger corner cross into the box. In a crowded six-yard box, Manke was able to get the ball into the back of the net.
- Sophomore Elizabeth Zimmerman scored shortly thereafter after Sarah Zimmerman passed off to her after making a run upfield. Elizabeth received the ball and made a quick move to the right to create space before her shot found room in the low-left corner of the frame.
- Sophomore Maren Brown chipped in with her first goal of the season in the 44th minute. Again on a corner put into the box by Bissinger, Brown was on the receiving end of the cross and put the ball into the back of the net for a 3-0 halftime lead.
- First-year McKenna Reh put the finishing touches on a dominant W&L win over the Quakers (7-2-2, 1-2-0 ODAC) in the 71st minute. Reh controlled the ball on the right side and made a run all the way into the box, where she beat the GC keeper at the near post for the score.
TOP PERFORMERS:
- Manke's goal was her third of the year, while Elizabeth Zimmerman got her second. Bissinger's two helpers give her four for the season, tied for second most on the team.
- Sarah Zimmerman dished out her second assist of the year, while Brown and Reh both netted their first goals of the season.
- Brown, Bissinger, sophomore Megan Zimmerman and senior Helen Otteni all led the Generals with three shot attempts each.
