LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced the seedings for the upcoming Men's Soccer Championship and Washington and Lee earned the No. 2 seed.
Â
The Generals completed the regular season with an overall record of 9-3-5 and 7-1-1 in conference play, the seventh-straight season in which the team has lost one or fewer conference contests. W&L is 5-1 in the last six games and 9-1-2 over the last 12 heading into postseason play.
Â
Lynchburg will be the No. 1 seed in this year's championship field, with Hampden-Sydney and Bridgewater following to round out the Top-4 teams and those who will host quarterfinal games. Virginia Wesleyan earned the No. 5 seed ahead of Randolph, Randolph-Macon and Eastern Mennonite to complete the eight-team field.
Â
As the No. 7 seed, Randolph-Macon (8-5-4, 2-4-3 ODAC) will travel to W&L for a quarterfinal game on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., in a rematch of the teams' October 15 contest that favored the Blue and White, 2-1. In total, the Generals faced five of the other six teams in the championship bracket, with the exception of Randolph, and went 5-1-1 in those games.
Â
The Generals have been most effective on the defensive end this season, as the team is yielding just 0.59 goals per game, tied for 19th in Division III with Buffalo State and Wheaton. Senior
Willy Hall and junior
Spencer Furman headline the defense, combining to have started all but one game this season, with first-years
Kaden Zion and
Isaac Arrowood performing strongly in their rookie seasons across 25 combined starts.
Â
In goal, senior
Will Joseph is closing out his W&L career with arguably the best season of his career. Joseph has started 13 of the team's 17 games and holds a 0.48 goals-against average and a 0.857 save percentage across 1,125 minutes of action. Joseph currently has single-season career highs in GAA and save percentage, and he has added seven shutouts to his career total to pull away with the career record for clean sheets (30).
Â
Up top, senior
Buster Couhig leads the attack with 14 points on seven goals, followed by Hall who has nine points on two goals and a team-high five assists. Sophomore
Ricardo Sanchez and first-year
