BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's soccer team closed out the 2025 regular season on Wednesday afternoon with a 2-0 win at Bridgewater.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Senior Buster Couhig gave the Generals (9-3-5, 7-1-1 ODAC) a one-goal lead in the 11th minute of the game. Sophomore Ricardo Sanchez had a shot attempt blocked, before senior Willy Hall got the ball back and found Couhig in the box for the score.
- Senior Will Joseph was tested in goal just once in the opening half, but was there to make the save in the 33rd minute.
- Sanchez then put W&L up, 2-0, in the 67th minute to close the scoring. Junior Matthew Jenkins sent a long pass up-field to Sanchez, who got a shot off and past the keeper who was closing in on him. The ball had just enough juice behind it to cross the line before the Bridgewater (11-4-2, 6-2-1 ODAC) defense could clear the ball.
- Joseph made two more saves late in the game to keep the clean sheet. Trey Widrick and Caleb Malekzadeh both put pace behind one attempt each in the 88th and 89th minutes, respectively. Despite the power behind the shots, both were right at Joseph who made the saves on the ground in the center of the frame.
TOP PERFORMERS:
- Couhig scored his team-best seventh goal of the season. He has scored in four of the last five games for the Generals. Sanchez's goal was his third of the season, while Hall (5) and Jenkins (3) got an assist each in the game.

- Riley Queen led the Eagles with four shot attempts, with Widrick coming in next at three. Both players put one shot on goal.
- Zane Kowalski was tagged with the loss in the Bridgewater goal. He played all 90 minutes and made two saves.
