LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's soccer team had its 24-game ODAC unbeaten streak snapped on Saturday afternoon in a 2-0 defeat against No. 23 Lynchburg.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hornets (8-3-5, 6-1-1 ODAC) scored their first goal in the 38th minute when Sean DeLorenzo found the back of the net following a pass from Kohlby Wilson inside the box.
- Lynchburg then tallied its second goal in the 75th minute from Fischer Daniel. A cross was sent into the box from the right side and pinballed around before Daniel got a foot to it and scored inside the left post.
- W&L (8-3-5, 6-1-1 ODAC) had its best chance of the first half in the 44th minute, when sophomore Ayush Kataria got a head to the ball, and placed it well towards the left post. Lynchburg keeper Thomas Viscuso was quick to the chance though and dove for the save.
- In the 54th minute, senior Buster Couhig got a head to the ball and flicked it up-field, which led junior Matthew Jenkins on a breakaway. As Jenkins closed in on the 18, he let a shot rip but Viscuso, again, managed to make the save to keep his side ahead.
- Viscuso made two more saves after that in the 59th and 82nd minutes, while the W&L defense allowed just two shots on goal in the second half.
TOP PERFORMERS:
- Jenkins and junior Spencer Furman led the W&L offense with five shots combined and four attempts on goal.
- DeLorenzo notched his eighth goal of the season and took one shot on the game for the Hornets, while Daniel scored his first of the season.
