LEXINGTON, Va. - Following the bye week, the Washington and Lee University football team returns to Wilson Field for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match up with Bridgewater College on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Series History:

The Generals hold a 32-22 record over the Eagles in their 54 previous meetings. W&L has won the past two match ups while holding a 6-4 advantage over Bridgewater in the last ten meetings.

Last season, the Blue and White walked away with a 23-7 win over the Eagles on the road. W&L's points came in the first half, scoring 14 points in the first quarter while adding nine more in the second, while the defense shut down the high-powered BC offense, holding them to one touchdown in the fourth quarter.


BC quarterback Jaicere Bateman led all passers with a 20-for-34 (65%) performance for 194 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. Ty Collins completed seven of his 11 (64%) passes for 89 yards and an interception while adding 44 yards on ten carries and two touchdowns. Jacob Romero '25 led all rushers with 27 carries for 80 yards and a touchdown. Brendan Robinson led the Eagles with 29 yards on the ground on eight rushes. Cedric Drumgoole of BC caught seven passes for a game-high 76 yards while Jamel Johnson hauled in the lone touchdown pass. Andrew Bland '25 led the Generals' receiving corps with four catches for 70 yards.


Uno Christopher '25, Jalen Todd '25, and Aaron Moore of BC led the defensive efforts with eight tackles. The Blue and White registered four sacks in the game, with Christopher recording 1.5 sacks and two tackles for loss. Gabe Joyner and Charlie Fleming '25 each picked off Bateman in the win while combining for four pass breakups.


Scouting the Eagles:

The Eagles are heading into Lexington with a 2-5 overall record and a 2-3 mark in conference play. Last week, BC scored the second-most points in the ODAC this season after defeating Gallaudet University 73-13 during their Hall of Fame weekend. They generated 581 yards of total offense with a balanced attack, rushing for 269 yards and seven touchdowns while airing it out for 312 yards and two scores. Defensively, they limited the Bison' offense to 121 yards while picking off a pass for a touchdown.

Jaicere Bateman completed 13 of his 15 (86%) passes for 173 yards and a touchdown, while Tommy Nelson led the rushing attack with 84 yards on seven carries for two touchdowns. Bradyn Horacek added two touchdowns in the win as well, with 66 yards on six touches. Aaron Nice paced the defense with six tackles (five solo), two tackles for loss, and a sack. Ty Johnson had the lone interception, picking off Gallaudet's quarterback and returning it six yards for a touchdown.


This season, the Eagles' offense is averaging 340.1 yards of total offense while averaging 104.9 yards on the ground and 235.3 yards in the air. In addition, they rank fourth in the ODAC in scoring, averaging 28 points per game. Jaicere Bateman leads the passing game for the Eagles, completing 132 of his 219 (60%) passes with seven interceptions for 1,463 yards and six touchdowns, averaging 209.0 yards per game. He has also added 98 yards on the ground with six touchdowns. Tommy Nelson is pacing the rushing unit with 177 yards on 38 carries and two touchdowns, averaging 4.7 yards per carry. Ian Browne has hauled in a team-high 38 passes for 559 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 79.86 yards per game.


The Eagles have the third-best defense in the ODAC this season, allowing 316.7 yards per game while giving up 27.1 points per game. Bridgewater limits offenses to 137.1 rushing yards per game, the third-best mark in the conference, while only allowing 179.3 yards through the air , the second-best in the ODAC this season. Aaron Nice leads the Eagles' defense with 53 total tackles, including 38 solo stops, 12.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, and three forced fumbles. Shalin Green has added 3.5 tackles for loss and sacks this season with 20 total stops, while Jordan Harper and Jonathan McCree each have an interception.


Scouting the Generals:

The Blue and White are fresh off a bye week, downing Gallaudet University 45-0 on October 11, their first shutout since blanking Ferrum 34-0 during the 2024 season. W&L scored a pair of touchdowns in the first, second, and third quarters, while Marcus Gafford added a field goal in the fourth quarter. They generated 475 yards of total offense, rushing for 399 yards and five touchdowns while adding 76 yards in the air with a score. The Generals' defense limited the Bison to 71 yards of offense with negative 11 rushing yards and 82 passing yards.

Ty Collins completed two of his five (40%) passes for 72 yards with one touchdown, connecting with Teddy Sparrow for a 57-yard touchdown. He also added 37 yards on the ground on three carries with one touchdown, averaging 12.3 yards per carry. Dominic Hahn led the rushing attack with a career-high 113 yards on 14 touches, finding the endzone once. Michael Schoenberg, Ian Gallimore, and Ryan Clemens each found the endzone as well. Brennan Stout led the defense with seven tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss. Arnez Dowe posted a game-high two tackles for loss, while Wesley Covert registered his first career sack, adding 1.5 tackles for loss. Will Mahmud and Mac Palmer picked off passes in the win as well.


The Generals are averaging 28.3 points per game while producing 380.5 yards per game. W&L leads the ODAC and ranks fifth in Division III, averaging 283.7 yards per game on the ground with 18 touchdowns. They added 96.8 yards per game in the air with six scores. Ty Collins has completed 44 of his 80 (55%) passes for 577 yards and six touchdowns while adding 175 yards on 39 carries and three scores. Anthony Crawford leads the rushing attack with 701 yards on 133 touches with nine touchdowns, averaging 116.83 yards per game. First-year Ryan Clemens has rushed 37 times for 187 yards with one score, averaging 5.1 yards per carry. Teddy Sparrow has caught eight passes this season for 210 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 26.25 yards per reception.


Defensively, the Generals rank fifth in the conference in scoring defense, allowing 21.8 points per game. They are allowing 317.5 yards per game, giving up 137.2 yards on the ground and 180.3 yards in the air – the third-best passing defense in the conference. Brennan Stout leads the defense this season with 61 tackles, the third-most in the ODAC this season, with 1.5 tackles for loss. Will Knight leads the team with three tackles for loss with one sack, while Cooper Taylor, Wesley Covert, Randolph Smith, and Cole Sheppard each have one sack this season. Will Mahmud has picked off a team-high two passes this season, while five other Generals have interceptions.


National Top-25 Polls:

North Central (Ill.) still tops the D3football.com and AFCA Top-25, receiving all 52 first-place votes from the coaches' poll and 23 of the 25 votes from D3football.com. Mount Union checks in at No. 2 in both polls, while Johns Hopkins remained the third-best team in the country. Salisbury moved up one spot to No. 4 in both polls, while Hardin-Simmons was ranked fifth in the coaches' poll and Bethel (Minn.) earned the fifth spot in the D3football.com poll.

National Statistical Rankings:
The Generals' multi-faceted offense is the fifth-best in the country this season, averaging 283.7 rushing yards per game. This season, they have rushed for over 300 yards once and surpassed the 400-yard mark once, rushing for 423 yards against Guilford. The offensive line has protected quarterback Ty Collins very well this season, ranking fifth in sacks allowed with 0.50 per game and four total. They possess the ball for 34:03 minutes per game on average, which ranks seventh in Division III, while ranking 21st in fewest penalties with 24.

Junior Anthony Crawford remains one of the top running backs in the country, ranking 18th in rushing yards (701) and rushing yards per game (116.8). He also ranks 28th in total touchdowns, finding the end zone nine times this season. Sophomore Brennan Stout ranks sixth in the nation this season in total tackles, averaging 12.2 tackles per game.


Around the ODAC:
Randolph-Macon has separated at the top of the ODAC table through seven weeks of football with the 20/25th-ranked Yellow Jackets now 5-0 in league games following their 47-0 shutout of Guilford on the road. There is now a three-way tie at 3-1 featuring Hampden-Sydney, Shenandoah, and Washington and Lee. The Tigers returned from their bye week to earn a 67-7 win at Averett, while the Hornets also won on the road, 33-20, at Roanoke. The Generals held course as they were on their scheduled bye last week. Bridgewater returned to the win column with a 73-13 triumph over Gallaudet as the only home team to win this week.
