LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee University field hockey team has reentered the national conversation, earning the No. 25 spot in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Coaches Poll. The recognition marks the Generals' first national ranking since the 2023 preseason, when they opened the year at No. 16.

Washington and Lee (8-3 overall, 2-0 ODAC) has surged back into the poll on the strength of a four-game winning streak and an 8-1 mark in its last nine contests. The Generals have outscored opponents 31–14 this season, averaging 2.82 goals per game while limiting opposing teams to just 1.27.

Leading the offensive charge is sophomore Margaret Scheurer (7 goals, 3 assists, 17 points) and seniors Betty Boatwright (6 goals, 13 points) and Sydney Baggett close behind with 5 goals and 4 assists. Goalkeeper Julia McDonald has anchored the defensive unit, posting a 1.26 goals-against average, an .800 save percentage, and three shutouts in 11 starts.

The Generals have shown strong balance and consistency, holding a  4–0 home record and dominating penalty corners with a 95–53 advantage on the season. Their resume includes a 4–3 overtime victory over then-No. 14 Franklin & Marshall and a narrow 1–0 loss to current No. 1 Christopher Newport in September.

Washington and Lee joins ODAC peers No. 16 Lynchburg and No. 17 Shenandoah in the national rankings, highlighting the strength of the conference this fall.
