LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington and Lee University field hockey team continued its strong start to conference play with a 6–0 victory over Roanoke on Wednesday evening at the W&L Turf Field. The Generals (7–3, 2–0 ODAC) dominated possession and fired 29 total shots in their second consecutive ODAC win, while the Maroons (2–9, 0–2 ODAC) were held to just two shots in the game.
W&L wasted little time setting the tone as
Zoe Dolfis opened the scoring at 4:04, finishing a feed from
Sydney Baggett off a penalty-corner sequence. Three minutes later,
Madeline Lancione made it 2–0 with an unassisted goal. Senior
Margaret Scheurer took over in the second quarter, scoring twice in a two-minute span — the first unassisted at 22:38 and another at 24:10 off a setup from
Amanda Tan.
Lancione added her second goal of the game at 49:51, and sophomore
Cecilia Hartford capped the scoring less than two minutes later, slotting home a pass from
Margaret Cover for her first collegiate goal of the season.
The Generals outshot Roanoke 29–2 and earned a 7–0 edge in penalty corners. Goalkeeper
Julia McDonald made two saves to post her second shutout of the season, while Roanoke keeper Chloe Miller posted a strong game on the back line. The rookie made 12 saves, including several point-blank stops, for the Maroons.
