WINCHESTER, Va. — The Washington and Lee University field hockey team recorded its third straight shutout with a 3–0 victory over Muhlenberg College in a non-conference contest at Shenandoah University's Aikens Stadium. The Generals (8–3) struck early and controlled the tempo throughout, while the Mules (5–7) were held to just two shots on goal.
Washington and Lee broke through at 11:03 in the first quarter when
Margaret Cover redirected a penalty-corner insert from
Charlotte Dreany to make it 1–0. The Generals extended their lead just before halftime as
Sydney Baggett scored off a feed from
Margaret Scheurer at 30:43. W&L sealed the win early in the third quarter when
Betty Boatwright finished an unassisted goal at 35:38 for her fourth of the season.
W&L dominated in every statistical category, outshooting Muhlenberg 23–5 and holding an 8–3 advantage in penalty corners. Goalkeeper
Julia McDonald recorded two saves in 60 minutes of action to notch her third shutout of the year, while Muhlenberg's Maddie Schwartz and Brenna Fitzpatrick combined for six saves.
