No. 7 Men’s Golf Leads Gate City Field After 35 Holes

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The seventh-ranked Washington and Lee University men's golf team surged into the lead at the Gate City Invite after 35 holes of play at Forest Oak Country Club.

W&L shot an impressive -8 in the first round, followed by -10 in the second round, which was suspended due to darkness. The Generals are 18 strokes under par, holding a strong position ahead of Methodist (-16) and Oglethorpe (-13), who round out the top three.

Leading the charge for the Generals is first-year Charlie Krasnewich, who is tied for third place at -7 after shooting a 71 in the first round and a blistering 58 through 17 holes of the second round.

Player Summaries

Senior Will Braxton delivered a strong opening card, shooting a 67 (-5) to finish the first round in fifth place. Braxton dropped seven slots and is one stroke over par after 17 holes in the second to place him tied for 12th at -4 total.

Also tied at 12th is sophomore Jonathan McEwen, who improved his score by ten strokes between rounds to jump up 29 positions. McEwen will complete his second round on the 15th hole Tuesday morning.

Timothy Kaufman completed both rounds, currently sitting even par, tied for 34th. Meanwhile, Elias Malakoff is +2 with one hole left in the second, tying him for 57th.


W&L recorded 31 birdies and three eagles on day one. 

Play will resume at 8 a.m. Tuesday before the final round.
