LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior
Weyimi Agbeyegbe and sophomore
Dmitri Tulloch combined for all three goals and added an assist each to power the Washington and Lee men's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Bridgewater in Wednesday night's ODAC opener.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Generals (4-3, 1-0 ODAC) got on the board in the just the fourth minute when a failed clearance from the Bridgewater (4-2-3, 0-1-0 ODAC) midfield put the ball at the feet of junior
Buster Couhig. He then centered to Agbeyegbe, who navigated around a defender and slipped a pass between two BC defenders to a cutting Tulloch at the top of the box. Tulloch needed just one touch to deposit the game's first goal inside the left post.
In the 15th minute, another Eagle turnover at midfield was picked up by Couhig, who again found Agbeyegbe in the middle of the park. Agbeyegbe took on two Bridgewater defenders before using one as a screen as he hit a right-footed shot past the keeper and inside the left post for the 2-0 lead.
Nine minutes later, the Eagles took a corner kick, but the cross was punched away by W&L junior goalkeeper
Will Joseph. Tulloch headed the ball further out and up the field to Agbeyegbe, who gave it right back to Tulloch making a run up the field. Continuing his own run, Tulloch sent the ball back to Agbeyegbe on the left side, where the senior took a controlling touch and scored to the right post for the 3-0 lead with 21:25 left in the half.
As strong as the W&L offense was at generating chances all night, the defense limited the Eagles to only five shots, including one in the first half. The Generals nearly got two additional goals when shots by junior
Willy Hall (12') and senior
Will Luik (72') hit the woodwork. Bridgewater's best chance at goal came in the waning seconds of the game, when Riley Queen tried his luck from just inside midfield, but his shot also found the crossbar.
TOP PERFORMERS:
Agbeyegbe led the Generals' offense with five total points on his two goals and an assist, while Tulloch tallied three points on a score and a helper. The pair combined for seven shots and four on goal. W&L's defensive unit allowed just one of Bridgewater's five shots to end up on goal, which Joseph stopped in the 79th minute.
Queen ended the night with a BC-high three shots with one on goal. Goalkeeper Charles Schweinefuss played all 90 minutes and made six saves.
NOTEWORTHY POINTS:
Behind his five-point night, Agbeyegbe moved past Dylan Ritch '19 (94) for the third-most points in program history. The senior forward needs just two more to become the third player in program history to reach 100 career points, with Jamie Parker '00 standing next on the leaderboard at 110 points.
Tulloch posted his second one-goal, one-assist game over his last three appearances, giving him six points through the team's first seven games.
The Generals improved to 28-4-4 all-time against Bridgewater with Wednesday night's win. It was the eighth straight win in the series, and the Generals have blanked the Eagles in three straight games and seven times over the last eight meetings.

W&L finished the game with a 27-5 positive margin in total shots, outshooting the Eagles 12-1 in the first half and 15-4 in the second. The Blue and White also won the corner-kick battle by a 12-3 count.
