PENFIELD, N.Y. – The seventh-ranked Washington and Lee University men's golf team secured a fourth-place finish after the third and final round of the NCAA Championships Preview at Cobblestone Creek on Monday.
The Generals opened with -3 in the first round, followed by a program-record 12-under-par second round, bringing them to -15 on Sunday. They concluded the tournament at -16 (285-276-287—848) on Monday afternoon.
The second round broke the program's previous low round of -11, set during the 2022 ODAC Championships at Old Trail Golf Club.
On Monday, W&L briefly climbed to second place but dropped back to fourth after losing seven strokes over par on holes 1-3 and another three strokes on hole 17.
Entering into the second day in seventh place, Will Braxton (69-68-72—209) continued to lead the Blue and White on Monday finishing on par and jumped up two slots to finish in fifth place on the individual leaderboard.
Player Summaries
- Braxton highlighted Monday's round with a hole-in-one on the 194-yard par-3 12th hole at Cobblestone Creek. With the hole-in-one, Braxton tallied three eagles and 11 birdies over the tournament.
- Elias Malakoff (71-70-70—211) was consistent the entire contest, finishing under par in all three rounds. Malakoff jumped up 11 positions in the third round, finishing tied for 8th to claim a top-10 finish. He carded 14 birdies and was over par on only seven of 54 holes.
- Jonathan McEwen (73-69-72—214) rose four positions on the leaderboard in the third round with his par finish. The sophomore finished 18th overall and two strokes under par, with 10 birdies and an eagle in the three rounds.
- Rookies Charlie Krasnewich (72-72-77—221) and Timothy Kaufman (79-69-73—221) both turned in top-50 finishes, with the pair finishing +5 over the three rounds and tied for 45th in one of the more competitive fields the team will see before nationals in the spring.

The Generals trailed No. 3 Emory (-31), No. 5 Illinois Wesleyan (-19), and top-ranked Methodist (-17). Methodist's Aiden Spampinato (-17) won the individual title, ahead of Emory's Brian Hanson (-14) and Carnegie Mellon's Justin Chan (-10).
The best individual round (65, -7) was carded three times by separate individuals and Emory's first card on Sunday (270, -18) was the best team round of the tournament.
