PENFIELD, N.Y. – The seventh-ranked Washington and Lee University men's golf team advanced to fourth place after two rounds at the NCAA Championships Preview, held at Midvale Country Club.
After an opening round at three strokes under par in ninth place, the Generals fired a program-record 12-under-par second round, bringing their total to -15.
The program's previous low round came during the third round of the 2022 ODAC Championships, -11, at the Old Trail Golf Club in Crozet, Va.
- Will Braxton leads W&L, shooting -3 in round one and -4 in round two, placing 7th at -7 overall.
- Elias Malakoff is -3 in 19th place, and Jonathan McEwen sits at -2 in 22nd.
- First-year Charlie Krasnewich is even par in 36th place through his first two collegiate rounds.
- Timothy Kaufman is +4 overall in 54th, recovering from a tough first round to score -3 in round two.
W&L recorded 41 birdies and four eagles across the two rounds. Malakoff led the team with 11 birdies, and Braxton scored two eagles, both in the second round.
The Generals trail No. 3 Emory (-31), No. 5 Illinois Wesleyan (-23), and top-ranked Methodist (-17). Emory's Brian Hanson leads the individual leaderboard at -12, followed by Methodist's Aiden Spampinato and No. 4 Oglethorpe's Jackson Hiller at -10.
W&L will kick off the shotgun tee times tomorrow at 8:15 a.m., starting on holes 1-4 as they aim to start the 2024-25 season strong.
