LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee University head men's basketball coach
Chris McHugh '09 has announced the hiring of Isaac Hibbard as an assistant coach. Hibbard will begin his duties on Monday, September 16.
"I am super excited to get the opportunity to come to Washington and Lee and join Coach McHugh as his assistant coach," Hibbard commented. "Coach McHugh and these student athletes have done an excellent job making Washington and Lee a high-level basketball program. I look forward to helping these student athletes grow as basketball players and more importantly as people."
Hibbard joins the Generals' coaching staff after serving the past two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Purdue University-Fort Wayne. With his help, the Mastodons' men's basketball program achieved a 40-28 overall record, two Horizon League Tournament appearances and a berth into the 2023-24 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. In addition to coaching and recruiting duties, Hibbard was also responsible for producing content for the program's social media platforms, and he served as an academic coach for the team's student-athletes.
"Isaac was a great player and leader at Hanover College," stated McHugh. "Over the last couple years, he has developed into an excellent young coach under the tutelage of Jon Coffman '96 at Purdue Fort Wayne. We are excited for Isaac to gift his basketball acumen and character to our program."
Hibbard earned his Master of Science degree in organizational leadership from Purdue-Fort Wayne following a standout playing career at Hanover College. A graduate with a B.A. in economics, Hibbard starred on the Panthers' men's basketball team where he finished as the program's all-time assist leader (392) and scored 1,257 points. Hibbard earned three Second Team All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) citations, was the 2021-22 Team MVP and helped the team win the 2018 and 2019 conference regular season and tournament championships.
Hibbard's coaching experience includes serving as an assistant coach for the Franklin Central High School varsity team (2021) and as a Competitive Greatness Skill Development Summer Intern (2020) during his time at Hanover.
McHugh and Hibbard lead the W&L men's basketball program into the 2024-25 season, which begins on November 8 against Wilkes at the Ursinus College Bear Bash Tip-off Tournament.
