No. 8 Women's Lacrosse Advances to ODAC Championships

LEXINGTON, Va. - The eighth-ranked Washington and Lee University women's lacrosse team advanced to the 2024 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships with a 19-1 win over fifth-seeded Randolph-Macon College on Friday evening. 

The Blue and White (15-3) rattled off the first seven scores in the opening ten minutes of action to overpower the Yellow Jackets (14-6) in the league's semifinal matchup. 

Senior Ginny Taylor found the back of the net at 14:06, a free position score, to open up the attack. RMC scored from an unassisted Annie Bartley effort before conceding the next 11 goals from W&L. 

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Defensively, the Generals only gave up nine scoring opportunities to the Yellow Jackets and only five of those found its intended target. 
  • W&L's offense maintained control all evening and sprayed 29 of the 41 scoring attempts on target. 
  • The Blue and White owned the loose balls all game with a 25-8 advantage in ground balls and 15-7 on the draw circle. 
  • W&L was a perfect 19-of-19 on clear attempts while the ride limited Randolph-Macon to 13-of-17.
  • The Generals caused 14 of the Yellow Jacket's turnovers.  

W&L LEADERS 

  • Goalkeeper Caroline Kranich made four stops to one goal against in 55 minutes of playing time.
  • Eight Generals were responsible for 14 caused turnovers with Shannon Timoney and Cat Caples evenly splitting six of those.
  • Timoney also scooped up four ground balls along with a pair of goals. 
  • Fourteen different players recorded ground balls and 11 players tallied at least one point. 
  • Seniors Alex Petras and Hannah Bishop led the offense with five points each, four goals and one assist.
  • Seniors Juila Thomson and Taylor each recorded hat tricks. 
  • Eugenie Rovegno picked up a career-high 12 draw controls and recorded an assist off the draw to Petras in the eighth minute of the second quarter. 
  • Defender Libby Ford also picked up an assist in the final stanza. Ford was the outlet pass for Emma Marsh after the sophomore caused a turnover with 9:07 left to play. Ford sprinted down the field into the attacking third and dished the ball to Bishop who was striking across the eight-meter fan. Bishop registered a behind-the-back goal at 8:03 for the 17th tally. 

RMC LEADERS

  • Bartley recorded RMC's only goal. 
  • Evie McNEally took a team-high three shots and had three draws on the circle. 
  • Keeper Emma Taylor grabbed three ground balls and made 10 stops in all 60 minutes of action.

The Generals will continue play on Sunday at 1 p.m. against No. 13 Roanoke College for the championship trophy.
