LEXINGTON, Va. – The ninth-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team cruised past Bridgewater in the ODAC Quarterfinals on Wednesday, winning by a 5-0 score and surrendering very few games in the process.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The three doubles teams for the Blue and White (18-1) set the tone in the early going, as all three won by 8-0 scores. Senior
Margaret Carlton and sophomore
Grace Lorenz took the top spot, senior
Izzy Koziol and first-year
Haley Stoltz played at No. 2 and sophomores
Isabella Custard and
Annie Jennings rounded things out at No. 3.
The Eagles (9-11) were unable to claim more than one game in a single set in any of the singles matches, including the four that went unfinished. Sophomore
Riho Iijima picked up the fourth team point with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Emma Staton at No. 5, before
Gabi Moss clinched the match-ending point at No. 2 in a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Custard was closest to finishing next, as she held a 6-0, 4-0 lead over Raea Crabill at No. 6. Jennings (3) and Koziol (4) were both leading 6-1, 3-0 when the match concluded, while sophomore
Lauren Long was holding a commanding 6-1, 3-1 lead over Emma Nesselrodt at No. 1.

The Generals will hit the road for the remainder of their ODAC Tournament run, and they will next face-off against fourth-seeded Shenandoah in the conference semifinals on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Viginia Wesleyan University. The Hornets defeated Randolph-Macon, 5-1, in their quarterfinal match on Wednesday.
