SWEET BRIAR, Va. - Five members of the Washington and Lee University equestrian and riding team competed in the Zone 4 Championships at Sweet Briar College on Saturday.

Julia Luzzio qualified as individuals to compete at the IHSA Zone 4 Finals thanks to their regional standings at the Region 2 Championships two weekends ago.
Allison Hines was the highlight performer of the day for W&L. Hines took home a red ribbon as the runner-up in the intermediate fences section. With the second place finish, Hines qualifies for nationals and will represent Zone 4 at the IHSA National Championships which kick off on May 1.
IHSA ZONE 4 CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS
- Elisabeth Marek rode Phantom in the individual open fences and placed tenth overall.
- Allison Hines qualified for nationals on Jetson in the intermediate fences section by taking second.
- Hanna Johnson competed on Harley for the limit fences individual event and took seventh place.
- Julia Luzzio placed sixth while riding Mulligan in the introductory flat event.
- Clare O'Brien wrapped up the day on Cooper in the open flat event and placed eighth overall.
TEAM STANDINGS AND FINAL RESULTS
- Hollins and Emory and Henry advanced to the IHSA National Championships as teams. Hollins, representing Region 2, earned 45 points to claim the regional championship and the Wasps, representing Region 5, earned 42 points to advance.
- Liberty (Region 4, 31 points), Goucher (Region 1, 29 points) and St. Andrews (Region 3, 23 points) rounds out the top-5 in team scoring.
- In the Cacchione Cup final standings for the region, Mallory Francis (Hollins), Margaret Saunders (Liberty) and Emma Pell (Emory and Henry) advanced to Nationals as the top-3 finishers for Zone 4's cup standings.
