BLACKSBURG, Va. — The Washington and Lee University equestrian team competed at the IHSA Regional Championships on Saturday at Virginia Tech, highlighted by a regional title from Samantha Bourque and a reserve championship performance by Lydia Bowersox. The Generals will advance two riders to the Zone 4 Championship following the day's competition.
Bourque captured the Intermediate Flat Regional Championship, earning her place at Zones with a composed and polished ride. Bowersox followed with a runner-up finish in the Limit Fences Regional Championship, also securing advancement to the next round of postseason competition.
In the Open division, Elisabeth Marek placed fourth in the Open Flat Regional Championship, while Kate Martin added a fourth-place finish in the Introductory Championship. Irene Tsengas represented the Generals in the Novice Championship, gaining valuable postseason experience.
The day also marked a celebration of Washington and Lee's senior riders, recognizing their contributions to the program as the team transitions into championship season.
Up Next: Samantha Bourque and Lydia Bowersox advance to the IHSA Zone 4 Championship, which will be held on April 4, 2026, at Goucher College.
