BLACKSBURG, Va. — The Washington and Lee University equestrian team closed out the IHSA regular season in dramatic fashion on Saturday, tying for first place at the Virginia Tech finale with 34 points after the drop. The Generals were named Co–High Point Team of the Day alongside the University of Lynchburg, remaining deadlocked through three tie-breakers.
With the result, W&L finishes third in the regional standings, missing second place by just seven points after a highly competitive season.
The Generals were paced by Samantha Bourque, who earned Reserve High Point Rider of the Day honors. Bourque won the Open Flat class and added a victory in Intermediate Fences. Elisabeth Marek delivered a runner-up finish in Open Flat and placed fifth in Open Fences to continue her strong Open campaign.
W&L added multiple additional class wins and top-three finishes to seal the co-championship. Tytus Boston captured the Pre-Novice title, while Kate Martin won the Introductory class and officially qualified for Regionals. Ryon Sinclair recorded runner-up finishes in Limit Flat and over fences, and Irene Tsengas added a second-place ride in Limit Flat. Jade Condrell finished third in Intermediate Fences, and Grace Steinberg contributed a third-place showing in Novice.
Up Next: Washington and Lee advances to IHSA Regional competition on Sunday, March 1, at the Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. Competition begins at 10 a.m. at the Smithfield Horse Center.
