SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The 21st-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team returned to action on Sunday with a 9-0 win at Sweet Briar.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Senior
Margaret Carlton and sophomore
Grace Lorenz had the top result in doubles play with an 8-1 victory at No. 2. Senior
Gabi Moss and sophomore
Lauren Long paired at No. 1, with senior
Izzy Koziol and first-year
Haley Stoltz at No. 3, and both tandems posted 8-4 wins.
Koziol (6) did not surrender a game in singles play, while Carlton (5) lost only one game. Lorenz and sophomore
Annie Jennings occupied the No. 3 and 4 singles spots, respectively, and each lost only three games. Long played at No. 1 and downed Ana Patino, 6-1, 6-2, while Moss rounded out the sweep with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 2.
NOTEWORTHY POINTS:
The Generals improved to 9-0 in conference play on Sunday, as well as 76-1 combined across their singles and doubles matches against ODAC opposition.
W&L's 14-1 overall start to the season marks the most wins in a season through 15 matches since the 2007-08 team won all of its first 15 matches on its way to a 28-0 start.
