No. 21 Generals secure top ODAC seed in sweep at Averett

DANVILLE, Va. – The No. 21 Washington and Lee women's tennis team capped off another perfect 10-0 season on Monday with a 9-0 win at No. 46 Averett to clinch the top seed in the upcoming ODAC Tournament.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Senior Margaret Carlton and sophomore Grace Lorenz had the top doubles result, posting a shutout at No. 2. Senior Gabi Moss and sophomore Lauren Long were 8-5 victors at No. 1, while senior Izzy Koziol and first-year Haley Stoltz needed a tiebreak to down Elisa Batterman and Dilara Sultanova, 8-7 (7-5).
 
Carlton continued her dominance on the day with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 to highlight singles. Long (6-2, 6-0), Lorenz (7-5, 6-1) and Stoltz (6-2, 6-4) quickly secured wins at Nos. 1, 3 and 6, respectively, to clinch the team win. Moss took the first set at No. 2, 6-0, but needed a 7-4 win in a second-set tiebreak to complete her straight-set victory. Sophomore Annie Jennings rounded out the Generals in action with a 7-6 (3), 6-2 win at No. 4.
 
NOTEWORTHY POINTS:
With the win, W&L finished the ODAC slate with a perfect 10-0 record, which marks the 34th-consecutive season in which the Generals have not lost a regular season conference match. Overall, the Generals have won 333 straight matches against ODAC foes in regular season match play.
 
Individually, the Generals performed masterfully against conference opponents this season, posting a 55-1 record in singles play and winning all 30 doubles matches.
 
With no conference matches remaining, the Generals have clinched the top seed for the upcoming ODAC Championship tournament. They will host a quarterfinal on Wednesday, May 1, against the No. 8 seed. This year's semifinal and championship matches will take place on May 4-5 at Virginia Wesleyan University.

The Generals will now step out of ODAC play for their final two matches of the regular season. They will remain on the road on Wednesday at No. 17 Sewanee at 4:00 p.m. ET / 3:00 p.m. CT.
