LEXINGTON, Va. - After an 11-day hiatus, the Washington and Lee University baseball team secured a two-game sweep of Ferrum College in a Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader on Senior Day while head coach
Ted White earned his 100th career win as a collegiate head coach with the game one win.
GAME ONE | W&L 10, FC 7
- After the Panthers (14-20, 5-13 ODAC) loaded the bases in the second inning on two walks and a hit by pitch, Kyle Markowitz came around to score as Brett Mason reached first on a catcher's interference to put Ferrum up 1-0.
- The Generals (15-14, 9-10 ODAC) responded in the bottom half of the 3rd inning as Campbell Charneco singled through the left side of the infield, driving in Paul Ramseur to tie the game at one.
- In the bottom of the 4th, Nick Lagges and Mason Satterfield both drew walks to put two runners on before Zach Senders blasted a three-run home run to left field to put the Blue and White up 4-1.
- The next half inning, Bryce Thacker knotted the game up at four as mimicked Senders, sending a three-run home run over the left field fence.
- Ramseur and Jacob Jackson both drew walks in the 6th inning before Drew Larsen drove in Ramseur on a RBI-single to left field. Ethan Zulueta would give the Generals a three run lead again as he poked a single through the right side of the infield, driving in Jackson and Larsen.
- The Blue and White extended their lead in the bottom of the 7th as Senders singled to right before scoring on a Ramseur double to right field to take an 8-4 lead.
- Satterfield put the Generals up by six in the 8th inning as he roped a double down the left field line, driving in Nick Lagges and Zulueta to give the home team a 10-4 lead.
- The Panthers had one last rally in the top of the 9th as Thacker doubled to center field to drive in Baxter before Markowitz homered to left field to put Ferrum within three. Ashwin Suresh forced Russell Golembe to ground out to secure a game one win for the Generals. With the win, head coach Ted White earned his 100th career win as a collegiate head coach.
GAME TWO | W&L 10, FC 7
- Game two started out very similar to game one as Ferrum struck first in the top of the 2nd inning. After Markowitz reached base on a hit by pitch, Golembe drove him in as he found the right center field gap for a triple.
- The Generals would plate three runs in the bottom half of the 2nd as John Turner and Jaden Keuhner both drew walks to start the inning. Satterfield would drive in Turner on a single through the left side of the infield before Keuhner gave the Blue and White a 2-1 lead after scoring on a Julian Domenech ground out. Satterfield would come around to score later in the inning on a wild pitch to put the Generals up by two.
- Ferrum would cut the lead to one as Markowitz drove in Baxter on a single through the left side of the infield in the 3rd inning.
- The Blue and White would strike once again in the bottom half of the 3rd as Turner drove in Jackson on a single to center field, putting them up 4-2.
- The Generals would blow the game wide open in the bottom of the 4th inning as they plated four runs on five hits. They would have runners on the corners after Satterfield singled and Senders reached on a fielder's choice before Ramseur drove in Satterfield on a single to right field.
- Senders and Ramseur would both come around to score as Jackson smoked a ball into the left center field gap for a triple, putting the Generals up 7-2. Larsen flew out to center field the next at-bat but Jackson put the Generals up 8-2 as he scored on a throwing error by the Panthers' center fielder.
- With runners on second and third, Golembe tripled for the second time to left field, cutting the Generals lead to four. He would come around to score the next at-bat as Chaffin reached on an error to bring the score to 8-5 in favor of the Generals.
- After Turner led off the bottom of the 7th inning with a triple to left center field, Keuhner drove him in on a sacrifice fly to center field to put W&L up 9-5.
- The Panthers would come within two in the top of the 8th inning after Thacker came around to score on a double down the left field line by Markowitz. Markowitz would plate Ferrum's seventh run of the game on a Golembe single to left center field.
- The Generals would plate the final run of the game as Senders came around to score on a Jackson sacrifice fly to left center field. Cooper Charneco earned the save as he struck out two batters and forced a line out to secure a 10-7 win and a series sweep.
W&L GAME NOTES
- The Generals moved back to one game over .500 as they improved to 15-14 on the season and 9-10 in conference play.
- John Turner and Mason Satterfield led the Generals' offense with a 3-for-6 (.500) effort at the plate today. Satterfield, Zach Senders and Jacob Jackson each drove in three runs on Saturday.
- Bob Burr (1-1) earned his first win of the season after tossing a shutout inning, allowing one hit while striking out two batters.
- Brody Pasieka (2-0) earned the win in game two as he tossed 3.1 innings, allowing two runs while striking out three batters. Cooper Charneco earned his second save of the season as he tossed 1.1 shutout innings, striking out two batters.
FERRUM GAME NOTES
- The Panthers fall to 13-21 on the season and 5-13 in ODAC play.
- Shawn Baxter and Bryce Thacker led the Panther's offense in game one, both going 3-for-5 (.600) at the plate. Thacker led the team with four RBI while Kyle Markowitz drove in two runs.
- Markowitz was 3-for-3 (1.000) at the plate in game two, driving in two runs and drawing one walk. Russell Golembe was 3-for-5 (.600) with two triples and four RBI.
- Gavin Stone (1-4) was credited with the loss in game one, allowing four runs on three hits in 1.1 innings. Raleigh Walker (2-4) was credited with the loss in game two after allowing eight runs (seven earned) on five hits in 3.2 innings of work.

- The Generals are back in action on Tuesday, Apr. 23rd as they head to Bridgewater College for the final ODAC midweek contest of the season with the first pitch set for 4 p.m.
