Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. - The sixth-ranked Washington and Lee University women's lacrosse team used a 6-0 run during the second and third quarters to defeat No. 21 Shenandoah University 7-5 on Wednesday night.

The Hornets (9-3, 4-2 ODAC) went up 3-0 in the first quarter but the Generals (11-3, 7-0) defense held SU scoreless for 34.5 minutes to regain control of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Shenandoah used goals from Ainsley Buckner (11:34), Amy Bell (7:54) and Emily Lerch (6:22) to take a 3-0 lead going into the first break.
  • The Generals were plagued with unforced errors through the first 15 minutes and couldn't find a rhythm on offense.
  • The Blue and White then found their grove and responded with a 6-0 stretch during the second quarter and into the third.
  • Hanna Bishop found Ginny Taylor for the first goal of the night at 13:55.
  • Alex Petras then followed up the tally with an unassisted goal at 11:35
  • At the 4:38 mark, Claire Horned scored a free position attempt to even the score at 3-all.
  • Just forty seconds later, attacker Hanna Bishop scored what would prove to be the game-winner, an unassisted tally and the 199th mark of her career.
  • With a 4-3 advantage after the halftime break, W&L put two more scores on the board, an unassisted Julia Thomson drive at 13:50 and a Walker McKnight free position score at 10:21.
  • The visitors were able to cut the lead back down within two, thanks to notches from Alex Ripkin and Kate Vendemia to bookend the third break.
  • The fourth quarter saw just a pair of goals in the last 15 minutes of action: the Vendemia free position goal and the home team's final tally.
  • W&L benefited from a advantage-goal from Thomson at 4:37, the final score of the night.
