RUSTBURG, Va. - The Washington and Lee University equestrian and riding team tied for first place at the Lynchburg Invitational IHSA event on Saturday. 

The Generals won six of the 12 events, which included three straight classes to end the day, and tied Hollins University with 38 points. 

The Blue and White bested the University of Virginia's 32 points on the backs of blue ribbon winners Elisabeth Marek (Open Flat), Allison Hines (Intermediate Flat), Lydia Bowersox (Limit Fences) Abigail Hanson (Novice), Irene Tsengas (Pre-Novice) and Kaylin Jury (Introductory). 

With the win today, Hines qualified for the Regional Championships in the Intermediate Flat and Marek added to her postseason resume with a berth in Open Fences for the regional championships. The Generals now have a total of four riders qualified in seven events.

OPEN EQUITATION 

On the Flat

• Elisabeth Marek finished first for a blue ribbon in her open flat class. 
• Clare O'Brien placed fourth in the open flat. 

Over Fences

• Elisabeth Marek took second in her class over fences. 
• Clare O'Brien also placed fourth in open fences. 

INTERMEDIATE EQUITATION

On the Flat

• Allison Hines took first in the intermediate flat. 

Over Fences

• Elli Pope was the top W&L finisher in the intermediate over fences class and took fifth.

LIMIT EQUITATION

On the Flat

• Jade Condrell took third place in the limit flat event.

Over Fences

• Lydia Bowersox placed first in the limit over fences. 
• Hanna Johnson was the runner-up in the event. 

NOVICE EQUITATION

• Abigail Hanson took first place in the novice equitation on the flat. 

PRE-NOVICE EQUITATION

• Irene Tsengas placed first in the pre-novice class. 

INTRODUCTORY EQUITATION

• Kaylin Jury took home her second consecutive introductory equitation class blue ribbon. 

REGIONAL STANDINGS

• The Generals own 218 points in regional team standings and currently sit tied for third place.
• The Generals trail Hollins (245 points), Virginia (224 points) and matched Virginia Tech (218 points) after today's finish.

The Generals will travel to Roanoke, Virginia on March 16. The Blue and White will participat in both the Hollins Invitational and the Zone 4 Region 2 Championships on the campus of Hollins University.
