No. 25 Women’s Swimming Maintains Lead at RMC Invite

HAMPTON, Va. - The 25th-ranked Washington and Lee University women's swimming team maintained their lead at the RMC Invite following three first place finish on the second day of action on Saturday.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
  • The Blue and White hold steady atop the leader boards with 1,162.5 points, 100 points ahead of Salisbury (1,062.5). Catholic sits in third place with 660 points with Randolph-Macon in fourth with 637. St. Mary's College of Maryland rounds out the top five with 314 points.  
  • The Generals had three student-athletes turn in top finishes in their respective events. Riley Moorman picked up the first win for W&L, finishing in first place in the 200 free with an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)-best time of 1:55.75. Morgan Smith picked up the next win for the Blue and White in the 100 breaststroke. Smith clocked in a time of 1:05.32 to secure gold, the fastest time in the ODAC this season.
  • Vivian Pickeral secured the final win of the second day after clocking in a time of 57.92s to finish in first place in the 100 backstroke. Her time beats her previous ODAC-best  time of 58.16s which she set at the D3 Shootout in Chicago. 
  • Pickeral, Clara Attar, Bella Tarbet and Myla Rice teamed up in the 200 medley relay this evening. The squad clocked in a time of 1:46.99, an ODAC-best, to finish in second place. Schuyler Ross, Maria Jellig, Marcy Mortimer and Moorman teamed up in the 800 free relay where they finished in second place with a time of 7:50.39 which surpassed W&L's time of 7:55.06 which was set at the D3 Shootout.
  • Keener Witmer, Celia Bredehoeft, Ruth Crane and Paige McBoyle turned in a third place finish in the 800 free relay, clocking in a time of 7:56.71.
  • Jellig secured a second place finish in the 400 individual medley relay, clocking in an ODAC-best time of 4:33.10. Mortimer posted a time of 4:37.86, the second-fastest time in the conference, to finish in third place in the 400 IM.
  • Bella Tarbet rounded out the top finishers for the Blue and White, finishing in third place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.76s which ranks second in the ODAC this season.
