SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The No. 6/15 Washington and Lee women's soccer team matched its all-time program record with an 11th consecutive win on Saturday afternoon in an 11-0 victory against Sweet Briar.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First-year
Avery Hannah tallied the game's first goal in the fifth minute, which spurred a run of three goals in 1:59 of game time. The next score came on a Sweet Briar (3-8, 0-6 ODAC) own goal after a cross was redirected in, and first-year
Megan Zimmerman then found the back of the net from junior
Sarah Zimmerman.
Thirteen minutes passed before W&L (11-1, 6-0 ODAC) continued its first-half scoring barrage. Sophomore
Stephanie Zawtocki netted the next two goals for the Blue and White, followed by a
Gracie Jorgensen goal in the 22nd minute to run the lead to six. Senior
Sarah Lathrop capped the first-half goals with a score of her own off a feed from junior
Catherine Grasso in the 30th minute.
The Generals tacked on four goals in the second half to complete the 11-goal win and their 11th straight victory. First-year
Aubrey Dunbar made the lead swell to eight goals at 47:20, before junior
Sydney Devory found sophomore
Abigail Watson in the 53rd minute. Zawtocki added an assist to her line in the 59th minute, passing to first-year
Maren Brown for the goal, while Grasso rounded out the scoring in the 75th minute following a pass from sophomore
Ava Hecker.
TOP PERFORMERS:
Zawtocki led the offensive efforts with a career-high five points on her two goals and an assist, her first points of the season. Grasso came in next with three points on one goal and one helper, rounding out the players who accounted for multiple goals on the day. In total, 13 different W&L players recorded either a goal or an assist.

Abby Groff and
Kate McEnroe shared the team's ninth shutout of the year in goal. Groff started and played the first 24:33, while McEnroe covered the next 65:27. The Sweet Briar offense managed just two shots on goal, but both were stopped by McEnroe.
NOTEWORTHY POINTS:
The Generals' 11th consecutive win on Saturday ties the 2019 team for the longest winning streak in program history. A winning streak of at least 10 games has occurred four times in program history, with three of those instances coming since 2019.
Saturday's clean sheet also marks the team's fourth straight shutout, and the team has not allowed a goal over the last 445:58. The Generals now have two consecutive shutout minutes streak greater than 445 minutes, after they went 579:46 between their first and second goals allowed this season.
TEAM STATS:
W&L finished the game with a 50-5 margin in total shot attempts, including a 27-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Blue and White took 27 shots in the first half, 23 in the second half, and outgained the Vixens by a count of 10-1 in corner kicks.

The Generals will have a quick turnaround for their next game, as they head to Newport News for a Sunday, 1:00 p.m., matchup against the No. 3 Christopher Newport Captains.
