MANASSAS, Va. – The Washington and Lee University women's swimming team dropped their first dual of the season, falling to the University of Mary Washignton, 139-123, on Saturday afternoon at the Prince Williams Aquatic Center.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MEET
- The Generals fell to 0-1 on the season while dropping their first dual meet to Mary Washington since the 2015-16 season where they fell 145-117. Despite falling to the Eagles, the Generals won five of the 14 events this afternoon.
- First-year Vivian Pickeral picked up two wins this afternoon, claiming the top spot in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.08, defeating Phoebe Root of UMW by .14 seconds. Her second win of the day came in the 200 backstroke, clocking in a time of 2:11.70.
- Senior Bella Tarbet picked up her first solo win of the season in the 200 butterfly, posting a time of 2:10.40 to earn nine team points for the Blue and White.
- First-year Celia Bredehoeft secured her first collegiate win of her career after posting a time of 5:21.72 to take home first place in the 500 freestyle, defeating runner-up Ashley Dyer of UMW by .06 seconds
- Tarbet, Faith Sconing, Amelia Maloof and Tenra Adams teamed up in the 200 freestyle relay to cap off the meet. The squad clocked in a time of 1:40.88 to take home gold, squeaking by UMW's top team by .01 seconds.
