LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior
Jack d'Entremont poured in 24 of his career-high 31 points in the second half on Wednesday to lead the Washington and Lee men's basketball team to an 88-73 comeback win over Lynchburg.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Entering the second half with a two-point lead, the Hornets (8-6, 3-2 ODAC) stretched their lead to seven points within the first minute of play behind a layup from Deondre Ross and a triple from Jake Hart. W&L then got a layup from senior
Robert DiSibio and an alley-oop layup from d'Entremont to kickstart an 18-7 run to flip the game back in the Generals' (8-4, 2-1 ODAC) favor, 59-55.
Five straight points from the road side followed, but the Generals answered with 10 straight points at the beginning of an overall 17-4 run to begin running away with the lead (76-64) with under five minutes to play. d'Entremont led the Blue and White during the run with seven points.
Lynchburg was unable to gain further ground from that point on, and d'Entremont further aided with six of W&L's 12 points over the final 4:45 to secure the win.
The Generals were hot from the opening tip, as they connected on seven of their first 10 shots to push out to an 18-6 lead through the first 5:14 of play. Lynchburg responded, however, with six straight points to begin an 11-3 run to get back within four points. Six W&L points followed, four from DiSibio, before the Hornets scored 10 straight points to tie the game at 27-27 with 6:47 left before the half.
Lynchburg took a two-point lead (43-41) into halftime after outscoring the Blue and White, 16-14, for the rest of the period. The Hornets made 5-of-10 from the field in that span, to 6-of-9 from the Generals. Sophomore
John Loughlin was a major offensive factor for the Generals in the first half, as he scored nine points on 3-of-4 from long distance.
TOP PERFORMERS:
d'Entremont's 31 points came on 10-of-19 shooting overall, including 4-of-8 from three-point land and 7-of-7 from the foul line. He also made his presence felt on the defensive end with 11 total rebounds (eight defensive), four blocks and three steals.
DiSibio chimed in with 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting, plus six rebounds, three assists, one block and two steals, while senior
Drew Harrell tallied 13 points, eight boards, four dimes and three thefts. Loughlin rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Blue and White at 12 points, after he connected on his fourth three of the game in the second half.
The Hornets were led by Hart who had 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting overall. Jonathan Foust scored nine points on 4-of-7, while Miles Taylor and Alex Fitch both scored eight points.
NOTEWORTHY POINTS:
d'Entremont's 31 points nearly doubled his season scoring average entering the night (16.9), as he moved closer to 1,000 career points. He currently sits at 894 with 13 regular season games remaining on the schedule.
TEAM STATS:
W&L finished the game shooting 50.8 percent (31-61) from the floor and shot consistently throughout the contest to record 50 percent shooting in both halves. The Generals also made 11-of-23 (.478) three-point shots and 15-of-20 from the free throw line. The Hornets ended the day at 40.9 percent (27-66) shooting overall, 30.4 percent (7-23) from deep and 66.7 percent (12-18) from the foul line.
Both sides grabbed 36 rebounds, and Lynchburg held advantages in points off turnovers (20-14), second-chance points (20-11) and bench points (41-7). The Blue and White outpaced the Red and Black in the paint (40-38) and on fastbreaks (17-12).

The Generals will be on the road for their next contest, a 2:00 p.m. tip-off on Saturday against the No. 1-ranked Hampden-Sydney Tigers.
