No. 2 Generals Fall in Regional Semifinals Matchup, 11-8 to Gettysburg

LEXINGTON, Va. - Ninth-ranked Gettysburg College defeated No. 2 Washington and Lee in the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Regional Semifinals, 11-8 on Saturday.

The Bullets (17-4) used a five-goal spurt that spanned into the second quarter to go up 7-2, a deficit that proved too much to overcome for the Generals (19-2).

After back-to-back goals from Julia Daly to open up the game for the Bullets, the Blue and White responded with a Shannon Timoney (Mendham, N.J. / West Morris Mendham) and Claire Horner (Richmond, Va. / St. Catherine's) tally to even up the score before the 5-0 run for Gettysburg.

Timoney stopped the bleeding and capped the second quarter with an unassisted tally to bring the score to 7-3 at the break.

Hanna Bishop (Bronxville, N.Y. / Bronxville) and Allie Schwab (Bryn Mawr, Pa. / Harriton) scores cut the deficit down to two, 7-5 but were unable to come any closer. Gettysburg scored twice within the final minute of the third stanza for insurance goals to advance into the NCAA Regional Championships.

Julia Daly led the Bullets to victory with six goals, Katie Fullowan had three points off two scores and one assist. Caroline Sullivan added two helpers.

Schwab, Timoney and Horner all had two goals and Schwab added an assist for a team-best three points.

The Generals had a slight 12-10 advantage on the draw circle, groundballs 11-9, and caused 10 turnovers on the defensive end compared to Gettysburg's five.

Sophomore Cat Caples (Reisterstown, Md. / St. Paul's School for Girls) and Bullets' Lily Macatee each tallied five draw controls. Eugenie Rovegno (Duxbury, Mass. / Duxbury) also added four for W&L

In cage for the Generals, Caroline Kranich (State College, Pa. / Mercersburg) intercepted two passes and recorded three groundballs with nine saves after facing 23 shots.

Gill Cortese spent all 60 minutes in goal for GC and made nine saves and also saw 23 shots.

The Blue and White's 2023 campaign concludes with a 19-2 record overall, matching the program's record for wins in a season along with the 2017 and 2022 squads.

Gettysburg will take on York College (Pa.) in the Regional Finals tomorrow, Sunday, at 2:30 p.m.
