LEXINGTON, Va. – The 22nd-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team began its ODAC Tournament run on Tuesday with a 5-0 decision over eighth-seeded Virginia Wesleyan.
The Generals (16-6) claimed two of the three doubles matches by 8-0 scores, which came from juniors
Izzy Koziol (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) and
Margaret Carlton (Matthews, N.C. / Charlotte Christian) at No. 2 and first-years
Riho Iijima (Portland, Ore. / Westview) and
Grace Lorenz (Oklahoma City, Okla. / Epic Charter Schools) at No. 3. First-year
Lauren Long (Carmel, Ind. / Park Tudor) and junior
Gabi Moss (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Chaparral) rounded out the W&L doubles teams with an 8-3 win at No. 1.
In singles, Lorenz claimed the fourth team point with a quick 6-0, 6-1 win over Maya Brown at No. 4. Carlton dropped her first game at No. 6 to Sophia Bibbo, but then won the next 12 to clinch the match for the Generals.
The Generals will compete in the semifinals on Saturday at 8:30 am on their home courts against the winner of the Randolph-Macon/Shenandoah quarterfinal.
