LEXINGTON, Va. – The 22nd-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team recorded its second straight sweep of the 2023 ODAC Tournament to advance past Randolph-Macon in the conference semifinals on Saturday morning.
The three doubles teams for W&L (17-6) combined to drop just four games total in providing a 3-0 lead. First-year
Lauren Long (Carmel, Ind. / Park Tudor) and junior
Gabi Moss (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Chaparral), along with juniors
Izzy Koziol (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) and
Margaret Carlton (Matthews, N.C. / Charlotte Christian), logged 8-0 scores at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. First-years
Riho Iijima (Portland, Ore. / Westview) and
Grace Lorenz (Oklahoma City, Okla. / Epic Charter Schools) rebounded after an early deficit to win, 8-4, at No. 3.
Lorenz and Moss made quick work in singles to complete the match. Neither dropped a game, as Moss played at No. 2 with Lorenz at No. 4.
The remaining four singles matches each favored W&L by 1-0 set scores. Long (1) and Iijima (5) were both up by a 6-0, 5-1 margin when the match concluded, while Carlton was working on a shutout, 6-0, 4-0, at No. 6.
The Generals will play in the conference championship match on Sunday at home at 10:00 am against Sweet Briar.
