Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

No. 22 W&L sails past Washington College (Md.), 8-1

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The 22nd-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team defeated Washington College (Md.) on the road on Friday by an 8-1 final score.
 
The Generals (15-5) won all three doubles matches and claimed victory from singles positions 1-5 on the day. Junior Gabi Moss (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Chaparral) paired with first-year Lauren Long (Carmel, Ind. / Park Tudor) for an 8-2 win at No. 1, juniors Margaret Carlton (Matthews, N.C. / Charlotte Christian) and Izzy Koziol (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) earned a sweep at No. 2 and first-years Riho Iijima (Portland, Ore. / Westview) and Grace Lorenz (Oklahoma City, Okla. / Epic Charter Schools) dropped just one game at No. 3.
 
Moss (1), Koziol (2), Lorenz (3) and Iijima (4) also played singles, and each earned straight-set wins. The four players combined to lose just 10 games and dropped no more than three games in a single set. Koziol secured the most convincing win with a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Piper Sartison, followed by Iijima who won 6-2, 6-0 over Bin Nguyen.
 
First-year Isabella Custard (Dallas, Texas / Episcopal) rounded out the Generals who earned a team point, as she defeated Katie Ruppert, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 5. The Shorewomen (6-9) claimed their point at No. 6, when Isabella Sorhegui outlasted senior Gracie Caplice (Richmond, Va. / St. Catherine's School), 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8).
 
The Generals have their final match of the regular season on Saturday when they travel to No. 15 Johns Hopkins for a 9:00 am start.
