LEXINGTON, Va. – The No. 22 Washington and Lee women's tennis team came away with a strong 8-1 win against Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon.
The Generals (8-4) won 2-of-3 doubles matches for the early lead. First-year
Lauren Long (Carmel, Ind. / Park Tudor) and junior
Gabi Moss (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Chaparral) picked up a convincing 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, with juniors
Margaret Carlton (Matthews, N.C. / Charlotte Christian) and
Izzy Koziol (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) earning an 8-2 victory at No. 2. The Diplomats' (2-5) lone point of the day came at No. 3 doubles thanks to an 8-2 win from Sammy Perry and Presley Daggett.
In singles, first-year
Riho Iijima (Portland, Ore. / Westview) provided the strongest win in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 6. Long (1), Carlton (5) and first-year
Grace Lorenz (Oklahoma City, Okla. / Epic Charter Schools) (4) only dropped two games each, as Long and Lorenz both won by 6-1, 6-1 finals, to a 6-0, 6-2 victory for Carlton.
Moss and Koziol rounded out the wins for the Blue and White on Saturday. Moss was the victor, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2 and Koziol pulled out a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 3.
The Generals will return to the courts on Tuesday when they travel to Winchester for a 3:00 pm first serve against Shenandoah.
