BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The 22nd-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team returned to ODAC competition on Tuesday for the first time since October 3 of this season with a 7-2 win over Bridgewater.
First-year
Lauren Long (Carmel, Ind. / Park Tudor) and junior
Margaret Carlton (Matthews, N.C. / Charlotte Christian) earned a sweep at No. 1 doubles, followed by an 8-3 win from first-years
Karolina Moss (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Chaparral) and
Jordan Kach (Warrenton, Va. / Seton School) at No. 2. The Generals (7-4, 5-0 ODAC) forfeited No. 3 doubles, and led by a 2-1 team score heading to singles play.
The Eagles (1-6, 2-0 ODAC) picked up their second point on a forfeit at No. 6 singles, but the Generals won the remaining five matches for the 7-2 win. Long played at the top position and dropped the fewest games in a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Emma Nesselrodt. Carlton (6-1, 6-1) and Kach (6-0, 6-2) also came close to sweeps at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
First-year
Isabella Custard (Dallas, Texas / Episcopal) and Moss wrapped up the win for the Blue and White. Custard led Grace Knighton, 6-3, at No. 4 before Knighton retired, while Moss defeated Ryan Roeber, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 5.
The Generals will be back in action on Saturday when they host Franklin & Marshall at 11:00 am.
