FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The 22nd-ranked Washington and Lee women's tennis team closed out the 2023 Blue-Grey Invite with a 6-3 loss to No. 15 Trinity (Texas) on Sunday.
W&L's (6-4) wins came from No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 singles. First-years
Lauren Long (Carmel, Ind. / Park Tudor) (1) and
Riho Iijima (Portland, Ore. / Westview) (6) provided straight-set victories for the Blue and White, while junior
Gabi Moss (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Chaparral) needed three sets to handle Olivia Kim, 7-5, 4-6, 10-4, at No. 2.
First-year
Grace Lorenz (Oklahoma City, Okla. / Epic Charter Schools) pushed Cate Cushing to three sets at No. 4 singles, but Cushing pulled out a hard-fought 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 10-7 win over the W&L rookie. The Tigers (8-3) won at No. 3 and No. 5 singles in straight sets, and earned wins at all three doubles positions as well.
The Generals will return to the courts and get back into ODAC play on Tuesday when they travel to Bridgewater for a 4:00 pm start.
