No. 4 Women's Lacrosse Blanks Panthers in ODAC Opener

FERRUM, Va. - The No. 4 Washington and Lee University women's lacrosse team opened up the 2023 Old Dominion Athletic Conference slate with a 22-0 shutout at Ferrum College on Wednesday evening. 

The Generals (4-0, 1-0 ODAC) used multi-goal performances from eight players to down the Panthers (1-1, 0-1) in the conference matchup and 15 individuals recorded points

The Blue and White started fast and rattled off ten goals in the opening quarter before adding five, four and three scores in the remaining stanzas. Alex Petras (Manhasset, N.Y. / Manhasset) struck first at 13:07 off a fast-break opportunity. Ferrum claimed the first draw control and kept the ball in its attacking end until the possession clock expired. From there, Caroline Kranich (State College, Pa. / Mercersburg) sent the clear up to Sam Van Belle (Lebanon, N.J. / North Hunterdon) through the fast break which led to the game-winner. 

The Generals' offense was balanced throughout the contest with 12 scorers and 10 of W&L's goals came off assisted efforts. 

Hanna Bishop (Bronxville, N.Y. / Bronxville) led the scoring with four tallies followed by Alex Petras' hat trick. Allie Schwab (Bryn Mawr, PA. / Harriton), Brianna Benoit (Baldwin, N.Y. / Baldwin Senior) Sophia Edwards (San Francisco, Calif. / St. Ignatius), Jenny Lisovicz (Glen Ridge, N.J. / Glen Ridge) and Betty Boatwright (District of Columbia/ Georgetown) all added a pair of goals. Boatwright added two assists to match Bishop's four points. Caroline Foster (Princeton, N.J. / Lawrencville School) matched Boatwright's two feeds for three total points. 

W&L took 36 shots and held FC to four shots, 29 were on goal for the Generals. 

The Blue and White tallied 12 caused turnovers, 18 ground balls and 14 draw controls. Iman Haddad (Alexandria, Va. / St. Stephen's and St. Agnes') and Stefanie Chiguluri (Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth Hall) recorded a save each. 

The Generals continue the road stand with another top-10 matchup, a noon start at No. 6 Gettysburg College on Saturday, March 4.
