Box Score KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – The Washington and Lee baseball team came away with a 9-4 win over Berry (Ga.) in the final game of the D3 Showcase on Sunday.
The Generals' (4-2) big inning came in the eighth as their final four runs crossed home plate to secure the win. Junior

Jacob Jackson (Norfolk, Va. / Maury) scored the game's first run in the second inning, but the Vikings responded with a pair of runs in the third on a triple from Joey Garcia and a ground out by Zachary Hardee. W&L got both runs back, however, in the fourth inning on a two-run double off the bat of junior
Zach Senders (Potomac, Md. / Bullis School).
Salvino doubled and scored in each of the fifth and seventh innings, while sophomore
Evan Blair (Vienna, Va. / James Madison) held Berry in check across 4.2 innings of work. Blair (1-0) received credit for the win as he allowed just one run on one hit with eight strikeouts in his second appearance of the season.
The Vikings scored their final two runs of the game in the ninth inning on a two-run double from Nick Brunswick.
Salvino's bat remained hot as he finished the day 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and a run batted in. Senders collected three hits, two of which went for extra bases, and he drove in two and scored once. On the mound, junior
Thomas Haller (Round Hill, Va. / Woodgrove) worked the first 3.2 frames before giving way to Blair. Sophomore
Jack Belbot (Baltimore, Md. / Loyola Blakefield) covered the final two out of the game, both of which resulted in strikeouts.
Brunswick's two RBI led the Berry offense, while Garcia was the only Vikings player to finish with multiple hits. Jackson Halla started on the mound and tossed the opening 3.1 innings with one earned run allowed on two hits. Koby Dunn (0-1), who was tagged with the loss, also allowed one earned run on two hits in just 0.2 innings. In total, Berry used eight pitchers in the game, who combined for seven strikeouts, two walks and 10 hits allowed.
The Generals will open up ODAC play in their next contest, a Saturday doubleheader on March 4 at Guilford. First pitch for game one is slated for 12:00 pm.
