WASHINGTON, D.C. – The 11th-ranked Washington and Lee men's lacrosse team used a 19-0 scoring run from the first to fourth quarter to skate past Catholic, 22-4, on Wednesday on the road.
The Generals (2-0) conceded the first two goals of the game within the first five minutes but turned things around with eight goals in the final eight minutes of the opening quarter. Two more goals followed in the second quarter for a 10-2 halftime lead, before the team outscored the Cardinals (1-1) 5-0 in the third period to take a 15-2 lead.
Four more W&L goals came in the first six and a half minutes of the fourth, giving the Blue and White a 19-2 lead, before the Cardinals managed their third goal of the game, their first in 47:43 of game time, from Danny Fitzgibbons. Fitzgibbons scored again at the 6:03 mark, but W&L tacked on the final three goals of the game over the final 4:44 to round out the scoring.

Hillis Burns (Louisville, Ky. / St. Xavier) and senior
Henry Holliday (Washington, D.C. / St. Albans) led the Generals' offensive efforts with a combined nine goals. Burns scored five and added three assists for a total of eight points, as all three marks went for new career highs. Alex Kelly (Sudbury, Mass. / Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) totaled five ground balls. Senior

Jed Heald (Manchester, N.H. / Phillips Academy Andover (Mass.)) and
Will Bou (Chevy Chase, Md. / Landon) all collected four ground balls each, with Bou providing an 11-of-17 (.647) effort on face-offs. First-year

Harris Hubbard (Madison, Miss. / Highland Park (Texas)) picked up two ground balls and scored his first W&L goal.
In total, W&L had 11 different goal-scorers and 18 different players with at least one point. Junior
Nick Tussing (Owings Mills, Md. / Gilman) went 9-of-13 (.692) on face-offs to give the Generals a final face-off total of 20-of-30 (.667). In goal, first-year
Ryan Boyd (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) (2-0) picked up his second win of the season after he made 11 saves in 49:13 of action. Senior
Warren Seeds (Atlanta, Ga. / Westminster) came on and stopped the lone on-target shot he faced over the final 10:47 of play.
Fitzgibbons' two goals led the Cardinals' offense, and he was the only Catholic player with multiple points in the game. Sam Pikul caused a team-high three turnovers, while Collin Stein and Cooper DiCicco each finished with five ground balls. Nic Pezzone (1-1) was tagged with the loss in goal, but made 18 saves in 53:57, before Colin McDonnell covered the final 6:03.
For the game, the Generals outshot the Cardinals, 60-23, with a 40-16 edge in shots on goal. W&L also held a margin of 49-29 in ground balls.
The Generals will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Washington (Md.) on the road at 1:00 pm.
